Mounthooly Bunkhouse

Friday 26th May to Sunday 4th June

Mounthooly & St Cuthbert's Way, Northumberland

Dave P

Mounthooly is a remote but comfortable bunkhouse in the beautiful College Valley in North Northumberland, just below the Hen Hole and The Cheviot, less than a mile from the Scottish border.

We'll use Mounthooly as a base to walk St Cuthbert's Way over 6 days, using cars/taxis to access each section. This 63 mile trail links Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders, where St.Cuthbert was prior in 650AD, with Holy Island off the Northumberland Coast, his eventual resting place.

There are also options for low level walks in the College Valley as well as climbs in the Cheviot Hills. Wildlife in the valley includes red squirrels, otters and a thriving population of feral goats.

Following 7 nights at Mounthooly Bunkhouse, we'll spend 2 nights at Edmundbyers hostel, a cosy 17th century inn near Consett, ideal for exploring the Durham Dales and visiting Beamish open-air museum.

All bedding is provided at both hostels.

Deposit £150 please. (Total cost of the trip is expected to be roughly £400 per person, including accommodation, meals and petrol contribution).

Friday 23rd to Monday 26th June

The Cotswolds and the Thames Path

In the centre of Cirencester, historic Roman town and "Capital of the Cotswolds", the Barrel Store is a well-appointed hostel in part of the old brewery.

Deposit £84 please.
